Review MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 (MOTS 7) By BTS

MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 adalah full length studio album keempat BTS yang dirilis pada 21 Februari 2020. Siri MAP OF THE SOUL (MOTS) bermula dengan album Persona dan seterusnya  MOTS berkisar tentang journey mereka bertujuh dalam mencari identiti sebenar. Jika Persona menunjukkan rasa bahagia, happy dan love (Persona luaran mereka); MOTS 7 cuba menyelami sisi dalam mereka (Shadow dalaman mereka)

MOTS 7 banyak mengungkap kembali perjalanan lama mereka sebelum menjadi global ikon sekarang. The old Bangtan sound dan sampling yang mereka guna pasti membuat kita throwback betul.

Old timer ARMY pasti faham sedikit the hurt, the pain, the hate yang dirasai mereka awal dahulu. Jika kita mendengar album-album awal & pertengahan BTS seperti Danger kita dapat mendengar betapa marahnya mereka kepada masyarakat.

After that rebellious period, experimenting with many genre and style, mereka menperoleh kejayaan global. Banyak faktor seperti komunikasi kerap dengan fans, experiment pelbagai genre, kebebasan artistic kepada artis untuk tulis lirik, compose lagu, choreograph tarian etc, collab dengan artis barat, collab dengan uknown lyricist, composer, producer,solo song yang menggunakan kekuatan each member dll. Tapi pada aku their main reason they arrived at the top adalah passion mereka pada music.

Betapa mereka struggle mencari identiti diri. Dan kini mereka sudah belajar untuk accept their past, do the best in the present, & realize that all the fame wont last forever. Tapi dalam masa yang sama they are not alone (ada ARMY) in this journey of learning to accept who they really are. We literally gone through the process to adulthood together.

Pengenalan Album

Album ini mengandungi 20 buah track dengan 5 darinya dari album Persona. MOTS adalah the biggest debut untuk tahun 2020. Dalam masa 9 hari pertama, 4.1mil CD telah terjual menjadikannya jualan album terbaik di Korea, memecahkan rekod Guinnes Dunia dari album Persona.

Disebabkan aku tak berapa nak ada time sejak makin real adulting selari dengan umur hahaa, aku dengar album ni di Spotify dan tak follow real time rekod, MV rilis dll. Jadi idoklah dapat aku ceritakan the excitement awal dahulu. 

Aku cuma sempat dengar album dari Spotify saja. Kat Spotify, tang lagu solo tu dia letak short video compilation member itu. Hamek kau penuh satu skrin muka dak-dak BTS hahaa.

Sanggup akak kau ni beli earphone baru sebab sesungguhnya hilang nikmat hidup jika dengar lagu BTS kalau tak dapat dengar the bass yang sedap itu. So this is my reaction review for each song baru dalam MOTS 7.

Ah yes, the song that makes me cry. Macam ntah apa-apa je kan, lagu rap boleh meleleh air mata. Full length version ni buat aku rasa different dari trailer punya. Legit aku tak sempat tengok pun MV dia sampailah MOTS7 drop for almost a month..Sorrrrry sugaaaaa..mianhae

Satu lagu tapi ko boleh dengar at least 3 flow berbeza dari Suga. 

The transition rap dia REAL wa cakap lu..ha, puas hati aku dengar dia rap the whole sang. Pengaruh atau sampling dari album lama macam 2Cool4Skool, ORUL ada.

The drum & electric guitar aku sangat suka & bring me back to the early days punya music terutama Tomorrow ( the song yang tarik aku menjadi ARMY) & NMD.

Dia guna balik ayat big car, big ring (No More Dream) dan jawab dengan guna ayat

Which is nice sebab 

1- dia berani cakap balik apa yang dia cakap dulu (acknowldege your past self is not easy tau) 

2- ARMY rasa eh pernah dengar dulu (throwback), so i understand where you are coming from

3- ada kesinambungan dari previous song means ada perkembangan

Shadow disini mungkin dimaksudkan bayangan dirinya. Semakin gelap, semakin besarlah shadow

Im afraid. Flying high is terrifying.

No one told me how lonely it is up here

Mengaku takut, the fame is terrifying. Sebab level global begini belum pernah ada artis Korea lain lalui. Mereka takde tempat nak minta nasihat dan belajar untuk deal with it the pressure, the expectation throw at them. 

Ini BTS sendiri pernah cakap dalam satu interview. But the fact that Suga sendiri cakap they are afraid of it, real betul ni.

I can leap in the air but also plunge

Betull...you can either lompat lagi tinggi atau jatuh terduduk 

Now i know running away could be an option too

Pilihan mereka adalah teruskan, stop atau larikan diri. Bukan mereka sahaja sebagai artis yang berdepan konflik punya option seperti ini, kita orang biasa dengan our daily life struggle pun sebenarnya ada pilihan ini; teruskan atau larikan diri.

Aku tertarik dengan lirik ini. Mungkin maksudnya bila kita dipuncak sana, disana kita kenal diri kita sebenar

Ok aku tahu the exact moment i is sedih iaitu bila the flow change (2.09) and he (the old suga) seems to be talking to the suga now saying

Sometimes your rest can lead to a plunge 

Benda BTS paling takut bila lama sangat rehat adalah mereka hilang passion, hilang excitement, hilang kick pada their art & music. Itu yang mereka tak pernah berhenti release new song & project. Ini juga tunjukkan how hard it is to be relevant which means you cant really stop to rest.

Doing your best is the best option every time 

Oh boleh jadi kata motivasi baru ni tapi that means high pressure all the time

Oh when the feel, the sound, the voice bertukar towards the end. Wowww!!! I is the very impressed. Probably symbolize the dark side of him , which kita semua pun ada our different side kan.

Anyway, ni lagu fav saya dalam album.

Suga actually open this song. Followed by RM, Jhope, Jimin.

Oh my Tae voice make this song world classs brotherrr am so prouddd of u my child!

Tak review MV dia tapi weiiii the transition from white suit to black suit...smoothhh yo, what a sight! Black haired seokjin, dengan style nampak dahi, rambut panjang sikit, suit hitam humak aiiii, bighit kasi 18 scene kat seokjin sorang pun takpe hahaha…

Diorang pakai korset tu boleh buat kami menangis sebab pinggang memasing boleh challenge Saloma. Style Mv ni biasanya nampak dalam MV Jepun ..the venue mv ni memang da bomb!

Fresh hoi flow Jhope

Rap line ada banyak line jugak dalam lagu ni and all the hidden vocal adalah bestt! 3.18 minit rasa tak cukup je dengar lagu ni.

Then like this may be how i die my first death

But what if the moment right now...

The whole verse awal cakap tentang perkara yang bts selalu cakap mereka takut iaitu hilang pada music itu. Bak kata pujangga jeon jungkook “i rather die than live with no passion”. Itu mungkin maksud first death iaitu bila your passion die out, its like you die with it.

Aku tak tahu instrumental apa yang dia pakai tapi ada satu tu buat feeling oriental. 

Words to describe: Breath taking

Filter

Solo song dari Jimin. Baru kuperasan writer untuk lagu-lagu MOTS ni kemain banyak. Lagu 3 minit ini 10 writers!. 

Lagu ini style latin sikit. Sound light acoustic tapi dapat tonjolkan keunikan suara Jimin. Light, smooth ada sweet & sexy juga. Boleh kiranya kita imagine dance lagu ni boleh produce. The guitar sound light & chill.

Part “Ok” “Yeahh” tu lain sikit suara Chimmy. The whistle sound tu sesuai dengan feel keseluruhan lagi. Suara dia memang very appropriate with this type of song. Jika member lain bawa lagu ni, feel dia pasti berbeza. Good to see BH guna members difference lalu jadikan ia kekuatan atau strength masing-masing.

The lyric pun aku rasa sesuai dengan Jimin. We dont know him personally, tapi Jimin sepertinya seorang yang akan ubah diri dia sesuai dengan siapa bersamanya. Tengok bila dia communicate dengan Yoongi vs dengan Taehyung, lain. Even bila Jimin communicate dengan Taehyung masa Tae sedih, masa Tae blur, masa Tae frustrated, semua different.

Berdasarkan lirik, the person in the song kata pilihlah Filter mana yang kau mahu untuk diri aku. Kenapa Filter? Sebab awal ada disebut tentang handphone dan filter adalah salah satu function yang selalu kita guna untuk edit video/ gambar kita sebelum ditunjukkan pada orang lain.

Mix the color in your palette
 pun aku rasa lirik yang niceee. You can see this from few perspectives. One, diri kita consist of few colors ( colors can be translated as personality, passion etc).You yourself consist of many aspects, you are unique. 

Two, when that color mix with others (other people, new interest etc) it can become something else. A new color, you become a new version, a unique never seen before.

Is it better? Is it not enough?
Soalan yang selalu kita tanya kepada diri sendiri, juga soalan yang kita tanya pada anyone yang kita ambil berat (parents, pasangan, boss ><) Here nampak our tendency to try to satisfy other people.

Being a genie or Aladdin

Show that you want to make other dreams come true, to satisfy them same as above.

Zalim sungguh Jimin disini sebab dia tahu kelemahan kita (ARMY) adalah kecomelan dia hahaha

Yup Filter sangat sesuai dengan suara, style and karakter Jimin. If this song ever had a dance routine, be ready to nosebleed berjemaah. Kalau dia bawak Hobi/ JK sekali, itu double nosebleed.

My Time

Solo song dari JK. Mengambarkan perasaan dia bila jadi idol dari usia muda. Ah lagu ni lah yang RM cerita dalam Vlive dia macam mana mereka (RM, JK) mempertahankan hol’ ya instead of the proper hold you. Kita ingat ala benda kecik je, tak beri kesan pada seluruh lagu tu. 

Or ala, Konglish gitu lah nak sebut certain word jadi tak sama dengan proper English.Ohh silap besar saudara saudari sekalian. Sebutan itu purposely dibuat untuk sampaikan certain feel. Diorang kan artis, agak sensitif bab ni sampai the way pronounce or breathing pun akan ubah feels yang nak disampaikan.

Satu lagi amazing bila RM kata diorang ada Language team yang review lagu diorang jugak. So makhluk-makhluk yang kata “Camne ni kata worldwide artis tapi sebutan pun salah” kau duduk tepi sana, they know what they are doing, its on purpose. Anyway, aku sangat suggest korang tengok Vlive Behind Album yang RM buat for each album. Dapatlah kita memahami dan menyelak sedikit behind the scene mereka.

Ok sambung pasal JK. Style JK macam ada influence western gitu..smooth R&B sikit cewah. Sodap English dia,,he ride the rhythm jadi style tersendiri. Ha ini satu lagi masalah ARMY ni, mesti dok terbayang kalau ada dance routine camne..uuuu vibe R&B dia woww..Yang part last tu aku tak tahulah apa istilah dia dalam dunia singing, tapi sedap menambah perisa .

Oh yes JayKayy, you do grow up faster. Alangkan kami yang dok luar ni (ARMY) pun tanjat dengan kematangan hang, perkembangan hang. Lepastu rasa sindrom mak-mak tengok anak tetiba dah besar walaupun tengok hari-hari. Even hyung pun dok teringat hang yang kecik dulu, yang pi auditon, yang diorang hantar ke sekolah, eh sekarang dah jadi anak muda kaya berjaya.

Tapi ini semua tak sama bila dia sendiri realize that eeehh I suddenly become grown up. Suddenly dah habis belajar, tour satu dunia sana sini, jumpa dengan stars and celebrity, belajar foreign language, eh kena urus tax bagai.

Hidup dia bagaikan movie. Ada start which always a sob, struggle story ada climax dan ada ending. This also might mean that seperti kita menonton movie, his life flash in front of him just like that. 

He must feel like missing a big part of his life, his teenage life

Part ni aku cam blur sikit

I ran towards where the sunrise every single night. Its like I’ve been to somebody’s tomorrow

Mungkin maksudnya every time the sunrise, dia kena menjadi orang lain ( meaning jadi JK the idol, bukan JK the 22 years old kid who have 1,000 interest in life)

The boy who found the whole world too big

ah this lyric reminds me of their older song. Bila kita muda the big world look interesting to us, and we suddenly grown up the big world become scary to us

Friends riding subway, i’ll be in the airplane mode

Ayat ni boleh masuk diss track, boleh juga guna untuk describe the different life a normal kid his each and JK life, which he finds is what he is missing. ( There’s traces of losses)

Yes soalan yang kita semua selalu tanya pada diri sendiri. As a slightly older than you JK ( and to you guys younger ARMY yang baca jugak) this is what I found out:

You will never find yourself living right if it is based on other people expectation, standard or target. If we keep on living based on others, we will only exhaust our self. Its so tiring chasing other people dream. 

You are bond with your company contract and target etc. Fans and the public are expecting something from you. Your family, your friends also had their own expectation on you.

But the most important thing is what is your definition of a happy, fulfilled life? Not for the long run, but for the time being? Maybe to get to certain level in your online game? To finish that one song you've been writing? to say Hello to someone? 

This may look small, but at least that is your own target,it yours. thats what you wanted to do. Just do that.

The answer to Am I livin this right? Yes you are livin this right, if you put your own expectation and target in it and not others. You define what is the right thing ok

Ok selesai sesi nasihat.

Lirik dia pasal the struggle of kids yang tetiba dia kena jadi dewasa, rasa dia tak normal sebab tak buat, tak live life macam orang lain yang sebaya dia. Towards the end, lyric dia ada sikit harapan.

Louder Than Bomb

YES! Fav song from the album. Entah berapa juta kali aku replay lagu ni.The first beat 0.01 sec tu je aku dah SOLD! Hahaha. 

Masa tak baca lirik pun aku dah sedih tak tahu kenapa, bila tahu lirik lagilah T_T Oh lagu ni ke writer dia Troye Sivan? It nice how slowly but surely BTS akan collab dengan semua artis yang diorang suka.

Part RM ni straight forward, in English maka takde salah faham maksud

Ah yes the things we do everyday. Try to not give up living, praying for a better day. Terfikir betul ke ini tempat aku, ini ke yang patut aku buat?

Lirik dia agak payah nak decephier maksudnya. But this is my interpretation. The shadow they see in the cheer mungkinlah their past self/ style as an artist. You know how some fans kata BTS dah tak macam dulu, dah berubah nyanyi lagu pop je sekarang tak hiphop? Maybe thats the shadow they talking about. Orang macam nilah yang pandang slack pada mereka ( the look u give…)

Lepastu part RM tentang never giving up walaupun rasa macam pusing-pusing dalam maze. Jhope sambung juga tidak akan give up dan tidak takut akan darkness itu.

Part ni aku rasa maksdunya, we both (artist & fans maybe) rasa kesakitan ini, dan ini bukan tak sengaja tapi kita yang pilih untuk begini. Untuk go forward, untuk show the world siapa kita.

Now rap part suga akan spit the truth tentang kata-kata orang pada mereka, tanggungjawab mereka. He then repeat the verse tapi switch up the rap.

Aku suka the buildup vocal line. You know & feel like we going somewhere. The whole song to macam satu journey, ada penceritaan dia.

Kalau version asal, 8D tak cukup lagilah carilah yang Slowed down version, so you can die slowly pulak huuuu..it hit different tau cer carik

Ada orang kata lagu ni macam House of cards. Maybe dari segi macam mana it sound totally different from the lyrics. Tapi aku sangat menyokong kalau live lagu ni buat style cam HOC, nyanyi dengan standing mic je..pergh impact dia jauuh pegi ni..eh lama la nak siap review ni aku pi tengok fancam HOC pulakz

They sound sinister...ha itu dia word yang aku nak cari..sinister ( macam perasaan jahat tu) tapi dalam masa yang sama ada kesakitan, kesedihan (pain ) dalam lirik dia. Lagu ni wajib ada headphone with good BASS.

Harmoni vocal line dengan pitch tinggi tu oh mai

Oh ketenangan dengar lagu oleh Vocal line . Aku boleh bayangkan seluruh stadium melambai-lambai time lagu ni. Tapi boleh tahan bass lagu sweet ni. Mula-mula dah impressed sebab tak pernah terfikir aku tentang zero oclock.

0 oclock symbolizes a new day, a new beginning. Tapi lagu ni tetap realistic, will anything change? Probably not but its new day. Lagu ni bawa maksud yang tomorrow will be a new day, there is hope

Aku rasa aha sweetnya suara Seokjin disini...pastu harmonize dengan Jimin pulak tu..duo yang tak terfikir. Aku sangatlah suka suara Seokjin dalam lagu ni. Dari segi line distribution pulak ( which i never really care) semua dapat enough time i think.

Solo song by JIN..alahai sweet suara dia, sesuai buat OST kdrama ni. Lagu ni antara yang paling cheerful dalam album ni. Part Jin tarik suara tu woww i likee.

Betul dah tu semua orang, dengan seokjin sendiri kat how beaituful he is. Itu fact takyah bidas. Begitu juga kita melihat bulan, wah cantiknya bulan tapi disana kan kosong nothin on there.

Lagu-lagu solo seokjin this few theme akan berulang, flower,blossom, beauty yang orang tak nampak, wound yang disembunyikan etc.

( to BTS, kalau korang tanya lagi kenapa ARMY tetap setia dengan hang, this is the reason. Read that above line again)

We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal

Lagu ni adalah Sambungan 2013 Bangtan We Are Bulletproof Pt 2.The song start off, not what i had expected. Lagu ni sweet weii. In Pt 2 the wholesong penuh dengan that booming bass, the lyric full of the harsh reality they face, how they hate the double standard, how they want to fight the world. They go hard, hard hiphop in the song.

The Eternal on the other hand is about how much they appreciate the fans. JK started with all the had in the beginiing is just a dream. Their endless practicing. 

Dont want to die, so much pain, too much cryin.

We were only seven, but we have you all now.

They got each other bertujuh, they got us now fans yang stay selama 7 tahun bersama.

We are we are together bulletproof, yeah we have you have you

We are we are forever bulletproof

Awwww akak nak nangis dengar ni

Dengar bass boasted lagu ni, uih sampai ke jantung.

Part Suga, dia guna suara ni wei huhuu. The song is about fan, about all the members staying together braving the winter sampai kita jumpa spring.

They asked what do we still walking together with Bangtan, my answer would be because at some point you are the reason i keep on walking. You dont leave me when everything seem bleak and pointless, so i wont leave you now.

One word to describe this song: grateful. You are grateful to us, as we are to you. We will keep walking together. Its a promise

As RM said, aku pun happy Hobie is the one closing this album, his the perfect one to do this.
